The New General Catalogue of Nebulae and Clusters of Stars (NGC) is an astronomical catalogue compiled by John Louis Emil Dreyer in 1888. It contains 7,840 deep-sky objects and is one of the most comprehensive catalogs of its kind. The NGC expanded upon previous catalogs and remains a fundamental reference for astronomers today.

Fotometrické systémy
V-band (Visual): Filtr Johnson V se středem kolem ~550 nm (žlutozelená), odpovídající maximální citlivosti lidského oka. Toto je standardní astronomický systém magnitud.
B-band (Blue): Filtr Johnson B se středem kolem ~440 nm (modré světlo). Používá se, když magnituda V není k dispozici.
Stupnice magnitud
Astronomická stupnice magnitud je logaritmická. Každý krok magnitudy představuje poměr jasnosti přibližně 2,512×. Vzorec spojující rozdíl magnitud s poměrem jasnosti je:
\[m_1 - m_2 = -2.5 \times \log_{10}\left(\frac{F_1}{F_2}\right)\]
kde m je magnituda a F je tok. Nižší magnituda = jasnější objekt.
Barevný index (B-V)
Barevný index B-V udává barvu a teplotu objektu:
\[B - V = m_B - m_V\]
Typical values: blue objects have negative B-V, white objects are near 0, yellow objects are near 0.6, and red objects are above 1.0. Reference: Převod barev
Značení magnitudy
Každá hodnota magnitudy je označena (V) pro pásmo V nebo (B) pro pásmo B, aby označila použitý fotometrický systém.
Průvodce viditelností:
• Limit pouhého oka: ~6.0 mag
• Dalekohled: ~10.0 mag
• Malý teleskop (4"): ~12.0 mag
• Střední teleskop (8"): ~14.0 mag
Souřadnicový systém
Right Ascension (RA): Celestial longitude in hours:minutes:seconds (0h to 24h).
Declination (Dec): Celestial latitude in degrees:arcminutes:arcseconds (-90 to +90 degrees).
Všechny souřadnice jsou v epoše J2000.0 (standardní referenční rámec pro rok 2000).
